The Kindergarten and Daycare
Our daily curriculum has been developed in collaboration with the children to ensure a balance between Discovery Learning, Core Learning, Active Movement, 4 year old Kindergarten programme, 3 year old Kindergarten programme, Meal times and Rest/Sleep/Quiet times.
Discovery Learning – through Discovery Learning children have open ended opportunities to make their own discoveries and explore their own natural curiosity and inquiry into the world around them. During this time we empower the children to make their own choices of activities.
Core Learning – is a time where children learn in group situations and engage in teacher directed instruction. Activities focus on alphabet, alphabet recognition, letter sound, high frequency words, literacy, numeracy, science and active movement. When children are ready and willing Core Learning strengthens children’s transtition by consolidating their existing knowledge and preparing them for the next step in their on-going learning journey.
Active Movement – encompasses varying degrees of physical activities such as balancing, challenge courses, running, hopping, skipping, jumping, swinging, ball skills, climbing, hammering, construction activites, dance and movement to enable children to develop their fine and gross motor skills and increase control over their bodies.
4 year old Kindergarten programme – during our Quiet time (12.00 noon – 1.00pm) we provide a dedicated 4 year old programme which includes half an hour of age specific nursery rhymes, songs, audio books or quiet conversation and the second half is focused on science/nature activities that link to our philosophy of “nurturing with nature”.
3 year old Kindergarten programme – during our Quiet time (12.00 noon – 1.00pm) we provide the children with the opportunity to rest for half an hour followed by a specially prepared programme to extend their skills and confidence with the processes such as cutting, cell-o-taping, stapling, weaving, drawing, folding, construction and print making. These activities ensure their transition to the 4 year old programme is seamless.
